Effective Tuesday, December 11 at 10:00 a.m., please be sure to verify the new ranges when administering or ordering argatroban/heparin infusions.
Effective Tuesday, December 11 at 10:00 a.m., all UCLA Laboratories are upgrading the instruments that perform coagulation tests. The most important clinical implication is that the therapeutic range for unfractionated heparin and argotroban, will be considerably higher when measured by aPTT.
Clinicians: Please verify the new ranges when administering or ordering argatroban/heparin infusions. See the tip sheet below for details about this change.
Change in Therapeutic Reference aPTT
- Current: 54-85 (prior to 12/11/18)
- New: 85.5-111.6 (effective 12/11 at 1 0 a.m.)
All heparin titration order sets will be updated to reflect new goals. New therapeutic range and conversion table will be displayed when ordering argatroban or heparin infusions and when checking aPTT values.
aPTT Conversion Table
Reminders of this change will be implemented when ordering heparin and argotroban as well as checking aPTT values starting on December 11.
